Each of @DellCares’ customer support representatives have their initials and headshots on the @DellCares profile page and every tweet is signed so customers know who they’re talking to and their tweets appear transparent.

* It’s a group effort:

Providing customer support through social media requires collaboration between customer service, marketing and product development to address an array of different problems. In order to respond effectively to issues via social media, it’s important that your customer service team is trained on your company’s brand messaging and your overarching customer experience strategy. Government firms up support for tech-voc education

With more families struggling to afford their children an undergraduate degree, a government official said Monday that some are now turning to technical-vocational education to match the demand for skilled workers here and abroad.

Director General Joel Villanueva, the head of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), the sole government body tasked to handle tech-voc education, said his agency is ready to provide training attuned to the needs of various industries.

Under Villanueva’s term, a total of 622,831 individuals have received the certification out of the 740,673 who took the assessment from July 2010 to July 2011.

No data was released as to the number of graduates who made it to the job market.

Villanueva said the agency constantly consults with TVET (technical-vocational education and training) institutions and other partners to know their needs and get inputs on how to improve the delivery of TVET services in the country.

In each region, he said the potential of out-of-school youth, returning overseas Filipino workers and trainers should be tapped towards exploring technical-vocational education as an option to be more competitive.

For 2012, Tesda’s two scholarship programs –Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) and the Private Education Students Fund Assistance (PESFA)– will get P700 million and P200 million, respectively, which are expected to benefit close to 65,000 scholars.

Villanueva said the agency has also stepped up its review and evaluation of programs in various qualifications it offers and identified and beefed up those that are demanded and most relevant to industries to ensure jobs for its graduates.

The country’s unemployment rate slightly went up to 7.1 percent in July from last year’s 7 percent, as the economy produced 870,000 jobs as against 729,000 people who joined the ranks of employed in the same period in 2010.

Listed as a "core" OS X technology, OpenCL "dramatically accelerates" applications by tapping into the special processing power of the graphics processing unit (GPU), according to Apple. It taps into what an Apple developer page states as the "the amazing parallel computing power of the GPU."

GPU-centric acceleration can be used for financial modeling, accounting applications, analysis on large media files, games, and media applications. In general, the GPU is much better than the CPU (central processing unit) at certain types of computations--thus the necessity of GPUs in games.

In fact, much of the performance boost in Intel's next-generation Ivy Bridge processor (up to 60 percent faster than Intel's current Sandy Bridge chip) is due to more graphics circuits. Of the several hundred million additional transistors in Ivy Bridge (compared to Sandy Bridge), many are dedicated to boosting graphics performance.

To be fair, Nvidia's and Advanced Micro Devices' GPUs already support OpenCL but since neither of those GPUs are in the third-generation MacBook Air, the popular Apple MacBook would likely need an updated Intel processor to get that support.

That's where Ivy Bridge comes in. That Intel chip is due for volume production in the first quarter of next year potentially putting it in a refreshed MacBook Air sometime after that.

Indeed, that's a question that may dog the MacBook faithful in the coming months. When, in fact, will MacBooks get the Ivy Bridge processor?

Buzz was just tested inside Google before it launched to the general public, said Todd Jackson, Google Buzz product manager. Several layers of Google employees participated in the process, from the initial design team to wider and wider circles of employees. And a source familiar with the product development process said Google put Buzz through its usability lab, where it brings in outsiders to evaluate products in secret before they are launched.

However, either no one brought up the privacy concerns that Buzz users raised within a day of its launch, Google didn't ask the outsiders for the thoughts on Buzz privacy, or Google engineers dismissed those concerns as unfounded. The LX3 combines some of the best features of single-lens reflex, or SLR, cameras with the common, user-friendly features of most digital cameras, such as image stabilization, which corrects for shaky handling. The camera's 35mm equivalent lens and aperture range are more commonly found on much more expensive full-size cameras, which means that advanced photographers can customize to their heart's content and achieve near-professional results.

For the rest of us, this means we can pull the unit out of the box and start shooting. (Provided, of course that we can decipher the instructions; the manual provided with the camera was fairly opaque, and there's no standalone quick-start guide.

The biggest downside is the camera's very limited zoom, which can make even the most majestic vistas seem a little puny – the Manhattan skyline lacked oomph when shot from the Brooklyn Bridge. For about $500 – cheaper than a DSLR but at least $100 more than comparable compact digital units – is the LX3 worth it?

If you're just looking for something cheap for snapshots, this camera is too expensive and has a steep learning curve. But if you're chafing at the limits of basic digital cameras and want to take your photography to the next level, the LX3 beckons to be taken for a spin.

Microsoft will ship several versions of Windows 7, including Starter Edition, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, and, for emerging markets only, Home Basic.

On Monday, a Microsoft official said the company has nixed plans to prevent Windows 7 Starter Edition from running more than three PC applications at one time. Previously, Microsoft had said that Starter Edition, which is purpose-built to run on increasingly popular, low-powered computers known as netbooks, would support no more than three apps at a time.

Microsoft is hoping that the Windows 7 operating system helps it recover from the Microsoft windows Vista debacle. Vista failed to catch on with mainstream computer users and businesses have shunned it outright. Windows 7 is said to be lighter and easier to use than its predecessor. It also includes slick new features such as built-in support for touch screens and tools that improve day-to-day tasks such as desktop searches and PC-to-PC file transfers.

The software maker plans to cripple the beta version of Windows 7 on July 1.

Starting on that date, users who are still running Windows 7 Beta will see their computers shut down and reboot every two hours. The interruptions are designed to encourage early adopters to move to Windows 7 Release Candidate, a more polished preview version of Microsoft's next operating system. Windows 7 Release Candidate will function until June 1, 2010. After that, users will need to upgrade to a full, paid version of the Microsoft operating system to continue use.

Microsoft last week introduced a bundle of software applications that leverage Windows 7's built-in support for touch-screen interfaces.

The Windows 7 Touch Pack includes Microsoft Surface Globe, a 3-D map of the Earth that users can navigate through with their fingertips; Surface Collage, a digital photo organizer and editing program; and Microsoft Surface Lagoon, an aquatic-themed screensaver in which fish and other creatures react to touch.
