Apple launches Safari Beta 4

Apple on 24 February 2009 launched the safari beta 4 publically for Microsoft operating systems and OS X. They have declared that this version of safari has 150 features and many of them are new, which I think is good hear. I have not explored it yet…but yes, I be sharing my experience with it soon. I cannot mention all the 150 features but still I can cover some of it.. hope it will be helpful to you.

Build for speed

According to the news, they have introduced Nitro engine, this is a super fast JavaScript engine, which is 30 times faster than Internet explorer 7 and three times faster than Firefox 3. Safari 4 also adds some bleeding-edge web technologies such as HTML 5’s media support (making it easier to add audio and video to Web sites) and offline support.

Top sites

This feature is a new addition in this version. It has the new top sites page, which by default loads when you launch Safari browser. It’s the same on as in Google chrome browser. You can disable this feature. By default, Safari watches which pages you visit most often, and dynamically updates the Top Sites page based on the usage statistics, and doing things such as removing login screens and multiple pages within a domain. But you can also add your own sites to Top Sites.

Search party

There is one more feature on the top sites page, which is a search box, which lets you search the browsing history. Click in the search box, and you’ll see a Cover Flow-like view of web pages you’ve visited. As you type your search terms, the number of displayed sites decreases as sites are eliminated.

User interface changes

If you use tabs, another very-visible change is that tabs have now moved to the very top of the browser window—in older versions of Safari, they appeared below the bookmarks bar. By putting the tabs in the position where most windows have a title bar, Safari’s developers have provided more room for Web page content—an important consideration for laptop users.

Windows World

Safari 4 Beta solves that problem by adopting a true Windows-native appearance, including native Windows font rendering. (Mac-style font rendering is available as an option in Safari 4 Beta’s preferences.) No longer does Safari look completely out of place when running on Windows; it now looks like it belongs on the operating system, which is a good thing if you’re a Windows Safari user.

Facebook has released commenting widget

Facebook is very much in news these because of its policies and terms of use. But I have got something else. These days we are getting much news only about… Microsoft windows 7 and Facebook.  Ah …we have more news for you…Google chrome has launched its new version.

Facebook on Thursday has launched a new commenting widget which enables Facebook comments to be added to any Web page. It’s like when users comment on a site using this feature, those comment can show users profile pages, which works as a form of free site marketing to the Facebook users.

Facebook Connect is not quite as easy to implement as the "just one line of code" pitch, but it does not look like it will take much effort for a developer: It looks like a simple addition to a site template, registration on Facebook's developer site, and a short file transfer will do the trick.

Not discussed in the materials for the new feature are the privacy implications, but it stands to reason that if you use Facebook Connect to gather comments on your site, then Facebook's terms of service dictate what can later be done with those comments and the social network data about your site's visitors generated by them.
